To keep the State Abreast on Emerging issues on Climate Change in line with the United Nations Climate Change Declaration
To introduce Climate Smart Agriculture to Rural Famers to improve food security
Putting in place flood early warning Signal Mechanisms and Alert the Public of any imminent flooding
Increasing understanding awareness of Climate Change among different sectors of the public through massive enlightenment and student awareness campaign
Establishment of baseline data on weather parameters of the State
To increase public awareness on predicted rainfall patterns before the onset.
To reduce carbon emissions, wind stress and heat waves making the state of being resilience by encouraging planting of tree.
Making the State greener by establishing a greenhouse in each senatorial district.
Aggressive promotion of the use of renewable energy such of solar
Introduction of the use of clean cook stoves to discourage cooking with firewood so as to prevent the felling of trees which will be useful in absorbing CO2
Seasonal Rain prediction to assist farmers across the State during planting season.
To attend to all issues relating to climate change and conservation.
Liaise as a communication channel between the Department of Climate change of the Federal Ministry of Environment for information dissemination of National and International issues on Climate Change.
Major achievements of the Department include
Draft State Climate Change action plan completed for stakeholder review.
Establishment of Climate change desk office in all relevant MDAs and local Government areas in the State.
Proposal on establishing an automated Flood Early Warning Signal System has been forwarded for approval.
Climate Change Budget Tagging. Where all activities that are climate change related in the State budget were tagged to estimate the total fund committed to climate change in the state.
