The Department of Ecology is saddled with flood and erosion control across the State. This involves coastal erosion management, monitoring/management of streams and river courses, and response to weather signal alerts.
Functions of the Department
To collect and collate all ecological problems
To monitor and supervise ecological sites
To attend to ecological complaints
To implement manual channelization/desilting of silted drains
To implement mechanical channelization operation with the use of Swamp Buggy.
To supervise and monitor the construction of concrete embankments/ drainages.
Mapping of flood-prone areas of the state.
Monitoring of flood-prone areas of the state
Clearing of water hyacinth/weeds in the coastal area of the state (Now moved to Transport but used to be in our purview)
Monitoring and supervision of the coastal areas of the state
Organise public awareness programme on flood crisis and erosion
Establish and monitoring of flood Early Warning Signal Stations
To coordinate ecological intervention projects in the state
Operation Flush Flood
This is a concession with ZL Global Alliance, a consultant on Flood & Erosion Control across the State. The department releases a work plan to the Consultant and monitors with a quantity subvention for that purpose.
